- ALL fiction sent via the application
for nomination form will be screened to ensure that it fits the following
criteria before being accepted into the nominations process.
- Fiction must be relatively free
of grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors and must be generally
well written and formatted. In order to achieve this, we suggest that
you thoroughly check your fiction before submitting it for nomination,
OR have your fiction proofed/beta read by someone who is not you.
- Fiction must fit into the category
in which it is being nominated. For example if your fic is an AU based
on Xander being an astronaut say, and you nominate it as a crossover
for Star Trek, unless members of the cast of Star Trek are presented
(and in a believable manner) your fic will not be accepted into the
crossover category. Naming a fiction a crossover simply because Xander
becomes an astronaut/is an astronaut is not enough
for it to be an actual crossover.
- Fiction must be in the fandoms of Buffy
the Vampire Slayer and/or Angel the Series. Crossover fiction must feature
either both fandoms, or one of these fandoms with another fandom (eg Smallville/Harry
Potter etc)
- You can nominate your own fiction or
someone elses, however if you nominate someone elses you must put both their
contact details and your contact details on the form, or your nomination
will not be entered. Nominations for fiction not by yourself MUST be received
by the date stated on the entry page.
- A valid url for your fiction must be
supplied. The url must point either directly to the fiction, or to an index
page with a link to the piece. If you do not have a url for your fiction,
please email it to us as an attachment along with your nomination details,
and we will host it for you.
- Please do not supply
urls for fiction hosted on groups such as msn /yahoo etc.. Not all judges
have access to these facilities, and nominations that supply urls to such
groups will be rejected. You are more than welcome to send the fiction as
an attachment with your nomination, and we will host it for you
-
Fiction MUST be rated
correctly. Using the American movie guidelines as a template, most fanfic
can be rated as follows:
G: Good clean fun for all ages.
PG: Mild implied sexual innuendo, mild bad words, or violence or serious
(though not quite mature) topics.
PG-13: Some violence, moderate bad language (b**ch, sh*t, cr*p etc), obvious
sexual innuendo, implied sexual relations. Also may include some mature
topics such as suicide, homosexuality, drug/alcohol advocacy, rape aftermath,
details of childbirth, etc. depending on the mores of the fandom involved.
R: Just-short-of-explicit sex, graphic torture or violence, rape. Excessive
bad language (f**k, w**k, c**t, bas***d etc). Not recommended for minors.
NC-17: explicit erotica, excessively gory violence. Often illegal for underage
readers.
- Fiction containing NC17/rape/bdsm/non
con/tortue etc... must be labelled as such
- Work in progress fictions are accepted
in certain categories, however, please ensure you read the requirements
for each category before nominating. WIP's must be marked as such when nominated
- Each author can submit only 3 pieces
of fiction
- Each piece of fiction may be nominated
in only 5 categories
- Please DO NOT nominate your fictions
against each other For example: don't put two of your fictions in the same
category - you will actually be competing against your own work if you do
this. It doesnt make sense!
- If your piece of fiction wins the category
it is nominated in, you may not submit that fiction into that category again.
However, you can nominate the winning fiction in a different category, or
a different piece of fiction in the winning category
- No incestuous fiction will be accepted
e.g. Angel/Connor, Buffy/Joyce etc
- Fiction with racist content will not
be accepted
- All winning fiction will be archived
at S & D
Archive
- Under no circumstances will you be
given information about the judges. If you harass for such information,
your nomination will be withdrawn from the awards
- Decisions are made based on how well
your fiction fits the category into which it has been entered. General writing
ability and the readability of the fiction are also taken into consideration,
as well as general enjoyment of the piece
- The judges decision is final
- Awards will be sent out within one
week of winners being announced
- When filling out the nomination form, and
asked if you have read the rules, please replace "Please"
with "Kill Me Dead ".
If the field is left blank, or the wrong information is entered, your nomination
will not be included. You will not be informed that you have given
the wrong information, I will just hit the delete button.
