Capture MeBy Veronica
Drusilla ran ahead of me, dancing on the cobblestones to the melody coming from a small group of classical musicians playing on a balcony overlooking the square. She was wearing my leather duster over her black lace dress and the folds of fabric flew out around her legs as she twirled. I wasn’t sure why she had wanted to wear it tonight, but I gave it to her, wanting my princess to be happy.
I followed her, smoking a cigarette, completely entranced by her graceful movements. She was poetry in motion, bloody intoxicating, my lady of the night. She came up to me, close enough that I could smell her rose perfume, hooked her arms ’round my neck, and looked at me. Her eyes sparkled as brightly as the stars in the Slovak sky, and she didn’t say anything. She didn’t need to.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, just doing what felt natural, and looked into those bloody gorgeous eyes of hers, deep and blue like the Danube River that ran through the city. She smiled at me.
With Dru, there could be an infinite number of possibilities as to why she was smiling. But I could see the reason so clearly in her eyes, in her expression, in the way she looked at me. I made her happy.
And at that moment, even though there had been a thousand other such moments in our time together, I wanted nothing more than to stay like this, with her in my arms, her body against mine. I wanted to hold her close to me forever, dance with her for eternity.
Of course, that wouldn’t be very practical. But then, being in love never is.
It seems so sad
And nothing’s new
Until I spent the summer running
Just we two
Just we two
