Generally

† Angel describes René in The Call (Ch. 5) "Another of the overly concerned ones. Darker hair, smaller frame than the previous one (Jean Claude). Taller, taller even than me. Damn good looking. Is Spike turning 'em based on looks these days? This one has a tiny diamond glinting from one nostril. Attitude reminds me more of Spike."
† Spike describes René in SSLWY (Ch. 3) as "This is Rene, my next son. He's Master of Mobile these days. Keeps the nasties out of the Bay City. It was his childe the demon killed." Rene Beaumont was an incredibly handsome man similar in height and build to his sire with black spiky hair and blue/green eyes blazing from dark olive skin. The combination was striking. He had a small diamond imbedded in one nostril and radiated an air of rakish danger.
†René is extremely handsome both in face and form. His looks are good enough to rival Spike's. One fair and the other dark, they are particularly striking when seen together. In SSLWY it says, "Cordelia had a hard time pushing away the intriguing visual of the black haired René and his light haired sire together. They were both very beautiful men."


Dress

For hunting

†Prefers jeans and dark clothes in soft matte textures that allow him to blend in the shadows.
†Cowboy boots because he finds them comfortable and because they offer a better "hit" to an enemy than sneakers.

On the town

†René dresses in a unique rebel/redneck/rocker combination. Though capable of looking wonderful in a tuxedo, he'd prefer dark jeans, somewhat flashy shirts, his cowboy boots, and his jewelry. Jack describes René's dress sense in "When Doves Cry": ""René has two pounds of silver on his boots. His shirts are silk, loud, and he wears them half-unbuttoned so he can show off that body he's so damned proud of. His jeans are so tight it's a wonder he can walk. He wears more jewelry than I own. He's an affront to decently dressed men everywhere."
† René does the bad boy thing really well.

At home

† Jeans and T-shirts. René often runs around in muscle shirts or bare-chested.
†Wears his hair either long (where it has a tendency to curl softly) or short and spiky.

Personality

†Devoted to Spike and Baby and his family's well being.
†Has a strong sense of freedom and needs to be his own person.
†René is quiet, but unlike Jean, it's a dangerous sort of quiet. He is observing all the time, constantly sizing up the competition or the enemy. Looks for danger everywhere.
† When angered René is damn scary.
† René has a strong temper though he isn't volatile.
†He doesn't fly off the handle and generally only gets mad if he really has a reason. However, once René is angry, he's deadly.
† His is a cold, calculating type of anger. More likely to simply walk up and shoot or slash the throat of an enemy than yell at them.
†René does the whole lurking-unseen-in-the-shadows thing as well as Angel does.
† Angel comments in The Call (Ch. 5) " He's good. Give him a few years and he'll be dangerous. I may have to kill him."
†He has a strong Cajun-French accent.
†René smokes cigarettes.
†Takes his duties as Master of Mobile seriously.
†Extremely attracted to Baby. - One reason he left New Orleans was the increased pain that seeing her and knowing she belonged to Spike caused. Has openly told Spike that if he could, if he didn't love and respect Spike, he'd make Baby his mate. In SSLWY, following Baby & Spike breakup and reconciliation, "he had simply informed Spike that if he ever did anything that stupid again (have sex with another woman without Baby's permission), he'd sever all relations with his sire and take Baby as his own mate. Spike had broken René's nose and threatened to kill him. René had grinned and said he was glad to see his father had returned to his senses. In "Bed of Roses" René becomes Baby's lover and eventual consort. He goes insane as a result.
†René died and voluntarily returned from Heaven to be with Baby and Jean. Nothing is more important to him than his consorts.
†Is Jean's only real rival for the title of Baby's "Favorite". Following "Bed of Roses" this whole dynamic changes. René is acknowledged as Baby's only other love besides Spike. Baby has said that if she hadn't met Spike, she could have been happy with René.
† Jean and René are best friends. René is the wild side that Jean can't express. Jean provides the anchor that René needs. René loves Jean second only to Baby.
† Overall, René has a joie de vivre that covers his darker aspects.
†Heterosexual (With the notable exception of Jean) - Because of his history of forced prostitution, René has severe issues with any man (except Jean and to a less extent Spike) touching him.
† He is an accomplished flirt and loves teasing the ladies.

†Like all Spike's Children, René has been taught edged weapons - knife, axe, basic sword - and hand-to-hand combat. René was already very familiar with firearms. René was also already good at his hand-to-hand skills. He is particularly good with small knifes.
†René prefers a sword for hunting demons.
†Carries a concealed pistol, a stake, and at least one knife at all times.
† René has a violent streak, though nothing like the ones exhibited by Wes and Baby.
† René does take some pleasure in killing. He experiences the high that all vampires do but does not feel the need to torture or terrify his victims.
†He enjoys the fight for the sake of the fight. Closer in this aspect to Spike than to Baby or Wesley.
†When upset or angry, René likes to find a baddy to rip apart with his bare hands.

History

† René is full-blooded Cajun.
†Born 1973 in south Louisiana.
† René's parents have links to organized crime and are mid-level players.
† Prior to being vamped, René was trying to distance himself from the criminal aspects of his family while still remaining very close to his family itself. René was forced to drop out of college and was mostly drifting through life unsure of what he really wanted to do.
†Turned - 2001. Sired by Spike in New Orleans. Is the 4th Childe Spike created (following Jean Claude, Claudia, and a childe (Phillip) who didn't make it and was put down by Spike). He is Spike's 3rd eldest living er… unliving childe. René was shot in as part of a hit put out on his human brother. René rather than the brother was killed. Baby & Spike saw the shooting and were able to turn René.
†In mid-2011 René set out on his own and within a year had become Master of Mobile. He has numerous Children and descendents of his own and has accepted mastery over the minions & childer of the master he deposed. One of René's children (Joseph) was killed by the demon known as Mörder der Realitäten in that demon's attempt to kill Connor Angel.
† René accepts Spike as his liege and runs Mobile as a vassal duchy of Spike's growing kingdom.
†René is considered Spike's finest general and has conquered the most territory for his father.
