† Born 1971 in south Louisiana to mildly affluent parents.
† Prior to being vamped, he was a professor of Philosophy teaching at
Tulane University. Has his doctorate.
†Turned - 2000. Sired by Spike in New Orleans. Is Spike's eldest Childe.
Jean was stabbed by a drug addict who needed money for a fix during a mugging.
Found by Baby & Spike, he became the first 'victim' they saved - setting
a precedence for the creation of their family. (Story is told in "Dancing
In The Dark")
† As Spike's eldest Childe, he is second in command of the Pride and
runs things in Spike's absence.
Physical Appearance
†Hair: dark brown
† Eyes: rich brown
† Skin: medium complexion with slight olive tint.
† Height: 5'11"
† Figure: Athletic. Broad shoulders. Powerful but not stocky.
Generally
† Angel describes Jean in The Call (Ch. 5) "Soft, Cajun French accent.
Bigger than Spike but smaller than me. Looks strong enough, though, with intelligence
in his face and demeanor. Yep, childe and not minion."
† Spike describes Jean in SSLWY as "(sic) smarter, more powerful
than minions. This is my eldest son, Jean Claude. He helps me rule New Orleans.
Takes care of things when I can't be home. Jean has been my good right arm
since I turned him." Jean nodded stiffly. He was fairly tall, with an
athlete's build and brown hair and eyes. He looked like he had been nearing
thirty when he was turned.
† Xander describes him in SSLWY - "He had the serious, almost studious
good looks of some of the young college professors Xander had seen."
Weapons
† Like all Spike's Children, Jean has been taught edged weapons - knife,
axe, basic sword - and hand to hand combat. Jean was already familiar with
firearms. Jean is pursuing his hand to hand skills. Jean is not by nature
a violent man and takes no untoward pleasure in killing. He experiences the
high that all vampires do but does not feel the need to torture or terrify
his victims.
†Like Wes, Jean is more comfortable with an axe.
† Carries a concealed pistol, a stake, and at least one knife.
Dress
For hunting
†Prefers jeans and dark clothes in soft matte textures that allow him
to blend in the shadows.
† Hiking boots for traction and because they offer better "hit"
to an enemy than sneakers.
On the town
†Jean dresses very chic and sometimes "preppy". He still retains
a lot of the college professor air. He will wear jeans and a nice shirt when
going out but is more likely to wear something up scale - silk slacks, nice
shirt, sport coat.
†Not into the whole "hey look I'm a creature of the night"
thing but would wear black etc when hunting.
At home
† Jeans and pullovers, soft cotton button downs. Sweats and trainers
in the winter.
Personality
†Devoted to Spike and Baby and his family's well being. Family is the
center of his universe.
† Jean is quiet, considerate, almost deferential.
†Very even tempered. Baby describes him as in SSLWY - "Jean was
the most even-tempered vampire she'd ever known. Of all the children, his
was always the voice of reason and restraint. She loved him dearly. Of all
the children he was perhaps her favorite."
† He has a slight French accent.
†Takes his duties as Spike's eldest child seriously.
† In fact, Jean over all is "serious".
† Extremely devoted to Baby. Everything else revolves around her and
how it affects her.
† Is openly acknowledged as Baby's "Favorite".
† Jean has a huge not-so-secret crush on Baby but would never do anything
about it because he loves and respects his sire. Not as vocal about it as
Rene. Jean has never flat out said "I love you and I want you."
† Jean and Rene are best friends. Rene is the wild side that Jean can't
express.
†Jean is deeply in love with Rene but knows that Rene does not love him
the same way. While a source of continual sadness, Jean has accepted that
he will never be true consort to Rene.
†When angered Jean is damn near as scary as Spike.
